This is the project of a light bridge system that will connect two areas of Milan separated by the course of the Naviglio and the railway. This bridge aims to connect the city to the Parco Agricolo Sud.
We designed a pedestrian and cycle path bridge with only few ground supports, integrated with the lifting systems. The bridge winds between the S. Cristoforo metro station, with the nearby tram and bus stops, and an interchange carpark.
The objective is that of an intermodal exchange system capable of merging with the territory and with the existing visual elements, thanks to the particular shape of the walkway.
To be noted is the intense greenery provided for the rooftops of the two new buildings, to enhance the connection with the surrounding park. This vegetation above the walkway creates places where to stop and to transform the infrastructure from a simple connection to a space where it is possible also to slow down, stop, refresh and socialize.
We wanted to draw a landmark, in harmony with its context. The shape of the bridge aims to remember the recurring structure in many other bridges over the Naviglio and the profile of the mountains on the horizon. A point of union between the urban landscape and the natural landscape.
